When urbanization dramatically changes every place, people also bid farewell to their networks and enter the new world as a lonely one. Fujian Jinjiang county made commercial success even before its urbanization, it’s where we see behind the physical form changes, people contribute even more on the space of legends and beliefs, to maintain or even enhance the webs of significance in local world. Behind the scenes of faith and ritual are the existential realities of the community. As a multidisciplinary team, we went through the local gazetteers, lineage genealogies, folklore and inscriptions, and also use oral interviews. Gradually we found that in historical and the presently difficult times, the space for sacrifice (any kind) were repeatedly reconstructed in the nearly one thousand years. Happiness is the fruit hanging from the tree of meaning, and the meaning of a piece of land has been formed over hundreds of years. The prosperity of local music and operas, the vitality of the family sacrifice ceremony and local cults, all bridged the cracks between the real and the legend, and kept the land an inspiral place.
