This project explores integrating infrastructure with architecture and landscape designs in a systematic and creative way, so as to create more inclusive, just, flexible, diverse and sustainable habitats. In this project, new spatial relations are created to manifest people's right to the city and give them more agency over their living environment. A flexible and operable structure was built, in which the vast population are not merely the participants or users of architects and urban planners' design, but the subjects that create, manage, and constantly modify the urban space. This project was approached at multiple scales from regional urban fabric, to self-sufficient neighborhood units, to interconnected codesigned living complexes. Within this wide range of scales, many notions of sustainable urban design were introduced into this project, such as the balance of bottom-up and top-down urban development strategies, sharing and cooperative community, high density and uncertain structure, multi-level public realm, better connections and accessibility, sustainable ecological system, diversity and complexity of programs, and the co-existence of historic and contemporary architecture etc. This will greatly promote the productivity and creativity of public spatial production, bring about enormous diversity, social dynamics, cultural and economic prosperities, and eventually new lifestyles, new modes of governance and social structure to the city.

This young but energetic team is consist of recent and current graduate students of University of Virginia. Its team members have very diverse architectural backgrounds and experiences, including winning some influential international urban design and architectural design competitions, such as 2017 Schindler Global Award, 2017 UNBUILT Awards etc.
