A Wall of Beijing

Song Zhuangzhuang, Li Mingyang (Diduhui) / China

Apparently, the building, or, the wall, is not a real one. You cannot find it in Beijing. However, its story is based on the reality of Beijing. The appearance of the building can be seen as the interaction of many forces. Some of the forces are top-down, and the others are bottom-up. No matter whether the former and the latter cooperate with each other or not, as long as the building exists, such interactions will continue. Consequently, the wall we see today – no matter if we like it or not-is not an ending. What it will look like depends on the interactions between the people who use it and the ones who manage it.

Zhuangzhuang Song gained his master degree in Harvard University.

Mingyang Li is currently a PHD candidate of Tsinghua University.

Song and Li founded Diduhui, a Beijing-based design studio, focusing on the research and visualization of cities.
