Patio of Macau is a result of a social neighborhood formed by Chinese community. It is a hidden layer that is weaved into the framework of urban fabric. Its significance however has always been excluded from the efforts of urban conservation and left for self-survival which gradually loses existence due to the deteriorating conditions caused by a process of rapid urban development.

What is really close to us and co-existing with us is usually forgotten and consumed by bigger and newer things. Viewing from plan is the most impactful method of viewing the urban fabric, it will reveal traces of urban development yet it does not reveal the specificity of Patios, yet this is the same issue that we are currently facing in current society.

Taking sand as an example, though homogenous from the normal eye, it reveals the beauty once it is magnified 300 times.

By magnifying its existence to the world, it makes people aware of the issue. The protruding element of the installation is like a magnification to the on-going issue that is being neglected by society, bringing it onto the same level of awareness as other urban issues. It also implies that by magnifying the patio will reveal the beauty within and re-discovering of a diminishing urban identity.

JWCC Architecture is a multi-disciplinary practice with the modus operandi of combining research, arts and culture into the core of architectural and interior design.
