When design deviates from "standards, eternity, pureness" and the utopia temple starts to collapse, our vision will be lured to chaotic things. Emerging social needs urge us to constantly think of ways to generate energy in a highly intricate social system. Against such a complicated backdrop, design is bound to be a great challenge, rather than a mere design challenge itself.

In urban village where trouble and opportunity coexist, many residents use their original "grassroots' design" in daily lives. Though poorly-made from cheap materials without any sense of aesthetic beauty, these designs are economically made with simple and direct internal logics to serve very practical purposes. They are a vivid and genuine "documentation" that bears witness to urban change and the life of grassroots, but they certainly are not the best choice for life. So we implemented an urban village furniture exchange program, where we exchanged new UABB stools for the stools of "grassroots' design" with the residents of urban village. Through this program, 50 stools of "grassroots' design" were selected as representative examples and placed in the exhibition venue for visitors to use. These stools, apart from providing practical functions, also serve as a documentation demonstrating to the public the wisdom of urban village residents in their daily life, highlighting the life of grassroots in the process of urban development. The stool exchange program not only brings the UABB exhibition into residents' daily life, but also conveys the UABB concept to the visitors.
