This exhibition presents a teaching approach developed by the MSc in Urban Design programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong over the last five years, combining design teaching with community and placemaking events. After earlier projects on Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, the teaching team focused in 2016-17 on To Kwa Wan in Kowloon. This area is located on the northern coast of Victoria Harbor adjacent of the Hong Kong’s former International Airport Kai Tak. Currently, this district experiences rapid transformation due to the construction of a new metro-line (MTR Shatin-Central Link) and major urban renewal projects. For the Magic Carpet To Kwa Wan project, the teaching team from CUHK collaborated with Heep Yunn School in the district. The secondary school students from Heep Yunn School and the master students from Chinese University of Hong Kong worked parallel to identify and tackle key issues of this area.

The exhibition installation aims to create a welcoming place, allowing visitors to relax and socialize.
