"Gangxia" and "Dachong", once the two most representative urban villages in Shenzhen, are now open spaces with only their names remained. However, "Nantou Old Town" is expanding fast at its own pace. In this cosmopolitan with big floating population, urban villages still inevitably present a thriving and vigorous social landscape despite repeated demolitions and relocations. The villages bridge the rural areas and urban cores, balance between the impoverished population and mainstream society, create a buffer zone between the low-income class and high cost of living, and ultimately alleviate many social contradictions. Urban villages afford economic opportunity to low-income workers while maintaining normal urban functions. It is to certain extent a unique and intelligent life style developed by civilians during urbanization. We attempt to collect, investigate and streamline common daily texts and written forms from the actual existences of urban villages such as "Gangxia", "Dachong" and "Nantou Old Town". Using those core information, we hope to reproduce the real and vivid diary of urban village life and subsequently become a part of the collective urban village experience and culture, which could be saved and archived during Shenzhen's rapid social transformation.
