Archiplein, an architecture group with both Chinese and Swiss architects, will reproduce the atmosphere and poetic characteristics of the urban ruins in Shanghai in Art De Vivre (Shenzhen). Ephemeral Theatre marks the moments of changes in which a large number of urban ruins are produced by constructions and demolitions in China’s cities. Urban ruins make us believe that the continuation of cultural identity in Chinese society is no longer dependent upon the material permanency. Instead, what is concerned at the moment is: the intangible human memory, immateriality of repeating single action, and vulnerability of memories and languages.
As an innovative architecture group, Archiplein is co-founded by Fang Wei-yi, Feng Yang, Francis Jacquier and Marlène Leroux. With its main focus on architecture design as well as urban planning, Archiplein is dedicated to critical academic research and actively conduct design practice in both East Asia and Western Europe through cultural communication between the east and the west. In a “nomadic” gesture, this group explores an interactive strategy between modern cities and architecture by investigating all kinds of urban congestion phenomena. In addition, establishing a thematic research on “Chinese classical culture and modernity”, Archiplein aims to explore the possibility of combining the dynamic and rapid development in today’s China with high-quality design philosophy, technology and ecological strategies, so as to improve living environment and inherit the humanism.
